Silver quarters are always a thrill to recover. Silver Washington Quarters were minted from 1932-1964 before being struck in clad. Here are the rare and valuable ones to look out for. Look closely: Perhaps you already have one in your detecting finds collection!
1932 was the year Washington Quarters replaced the Standing Liberty. Almost all of the 1932s were minted in Philadelphia and carry no mint mark. Only a little over 400,000 were minted in Denver. The same goes for San Francisco. Those with the “D” or “S” mint mark are usually worth $100-$200 in typical dug conditions. The mint mark on these is on the back below the Eagle, right above the “R” in “QUARTER”.
