Johnny Pryor was awarded the Middle Tennessee Metal Detecting Club (MTMDC)’s highest honor for 2014, the MTMDC Master Hunter, which is presented to the detectorist that consistently recovers the best finds on a monthly basis throughout the year. The club uses a scoring system derived from members voting on finds entered in three different categories at each monthly meeting: Civil War, Coins, and Treasure. With its broad history including major Civil War activity, Middle Tennessee is a metal detecting mecca. The MTMDC’s membership includes some of the best detectorists in the United States, including many veteran and legendary detectorists. So winning the Master Hunter award is a difficult task and an outstanding accomplishment.
Johnny is an active member of the MTMDC. The quality finds he brings to show at the monthly meetings are consistently numerous, well-displayed and outstounding. Johnny’s passion is Civil War relic hunting, and he is quick to share his knowledge and advice with other club members.
Detecting365 caught up with Johnny Pryor recently and he was kind enough to answer our questions about the award and how he approaches the detecting hobby.
