There are times when you really should dig those targets that don’t sound good or that you believe to be trash. By digging the tones that you wouldn’t normally bother with, you will be getting those items out of the way for your future hunts at that site. Some of those ‘iffy’ signals might actually be good targets like a ring or other jewelry items. One gold ring that I found earlier this year was an iffy signal that I had initially thought was just another piece of foil. Imagine my surprise when I opened the plug and saw a gold & diamond ring laying there!
If your detector has a depth meter, watch it. If you get a signal that reads deep, and the site has produced “the goods” in the past, analyze it carefully, as it could be a deep keeper, or one that is in close proximity to trash or iron.
Sometimes those ‘iffy’ targets turn out to be something really good, so if time permits be sure to dig some of those trashy sounding targets every now and then. You may be surprised at some of the goodies you find that others left behind simply because the target didn’t sound good.
