100 FINDS IN 100 DAYS: #45 Ford Model T Ignition Key

In this series, we have selected 100 metal detecting finds that were extremely difficult to detect and recover, and provide details on the circumstances and techniques that contributed to their successful recovery.

KEEPER:  This is an ignition key for a Ford Model T, Henry Ford’s masterpiece and historical first mass-produced motor vehicle.  I gave this one as a gift to a Ford historical memorabilia collector I know.

SITE:  Grandma’s House

SITE EVALUATION: 10 of 10  Nothing like digging up the Hydrangea!

I love the smell of Hydrania in the morning!

PERMISSION:  That’s between me and Grandma.  To this day, I’m not 100% certain if I technically had permission.  That’s something I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life.   Grandma never owned a Model T neither.

Hunt it like a boss:  Have fun.  Hunt every site like it is literally teeming with relics.  Then you will dig them.  Whether you think something is possible or you don’t, you are almost always right.

STOP SAYING THAT:  If I hear another person say “This site has been hunted” again after 30 minutes I’m going to lose my $hi%!!!!  Everywhere has been hunted.  If you stumble upon a virgin site, throw a party.
